On this day, we announce the passing of Aubrey Allen May, a husband, father, grandfather, and cherished friend. Aubrey left this world and entered the gates of Heaven on May 18th, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on August 10th, 1939, in Stanleytown, Virginia, Aubrey was the beloved son of the late Aubrey F. May and Ethel Ramsey May. Aubrey was preceded in death by his parents, his treasured daughter Veronique Power May, and the love of his life, his wife of 19 wonderful years, Linda M. May. He also shared a special bond with his late mother-in-law, Vivian Miller, and had fond memories of his faithful companions, Daisy the dachshund, Gabriel the dachshund, and Petey the parakeet. Aubrey's life lessons and good memories are carried on by his children, Kelly C. Lumb and her husband Fred I. Lumb Jr., his son, Jonathan Aubrey May (whom he was very close to), and his gracious, forgiving, and loving step-children Kelly Carson and her husband Rodney Carson, Tara Munroe and her husband Steve Krumm, Reed Munroe and his partner Kristin Donovan, and Kendra Munroe. He took immense pride in his grandchildren, Reghan Cutler, Nicholas Cutler, Hunter Carson, Alissa Munroe, Eva Munroe, Vanna Munroe, Ryker Munroe, and Nova Munroe. He is also survived by his sister Jean Carol Sumbera, and his wonderful nephews James D. Buck Jr. and Troy D. Sumbera. Aubrey's journey through life began after graduating from New London Academy, when he then answered the call to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. From February 2, 1959, to February 1, 1965, Aubrey served as an aircraft mechanic, honing skills that would later serve him in his career. Notably he served in the 1604th consolidated aircraft maintenance squadron at Kinley Air Force Base, Bermuda. During his service he was honored to meet former President John F. Kennedy with a firm handshake and a lifelong memory. Aubrey dedicated over 45 years to the construction industry, working as a general manager for various companies, proudly including his own, J&A Construction Inc. His work ethic and expertise were admired by all who had the privilege to work alongside him. A man of deep faith, Aubrey was an involved supporter of the Bedford Church of God and Liberty Cowboy Church. His spiritual journey was enriched by his involvement with the Kairos Prison Ministry alongside his wife Linda, where they dedicated countless hours, touching many lives and spreading hope to those in the prison system. His Tuesday nights were reserved for the men's ministry, where he found fellowship and camaraderie with Harry, Danny, Mike, Ken, Jeff, Sam, Ernest, and many others. Aubrey had a lifelong passion for aviation, leading him to take lessons to earn his pilot's license. He was known for his unwavering faithfulness to God, commitment to friendships, and work ethic. A celebration of Aubrey's life will be held on June 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Land USA Bedford, located at 4067 Dickerson Mill Rd, Bedford, VA 24523 with Pastor Danny Holdren preaching. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Aubrey and Linda's memory to the Kairos Prison Ministry, an organization close to their heart, at https://givebutter.com/kairosprisonministry. As we bid farewell to Aubrey, we remember a man whose life was a testament to hardwork and the care of his beloved wife Linda M. May. His legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
