Arnetta Read, 82, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away peacefully while in the presence of her loved ones on June 29, 2026. She was the daughter of the late,  Addison Thomas Sr. and Gwendolyn Tisdale.

Arnetta was born on July 28, 1943 in Lynchburg, Virgina. She attended Dunbar High School and enjoyed a long, dedicated career with the Lynchburg Postal Service from which she retired. She loved to travel and spend time with family and friends; laughing, dancing, and enjoying good music. Arnetta had an outgoing, fun personality that could usually be detected by her colorful outfits and jazzy hats.

She was a member of New Dearington Baptist Church. Arnetta loved her church family and enjoyed being an active member; volunteering and participating in activities and events that helped to promote the church, the community, and the kingdom of God.

Arnetta is survived by her son Thaddeus “T. J.” Read (Phyllis), and their daughter Emory, and son David Read (Dawn), and their daughter Amiah; her siblings: Addison Thomas Jr. (Ophelia), Thelma Harris, and James Thomas (Catherine), and a host of many loving relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Arnetta’s life will be held at New Dearington Baptist Church, July 10 at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund.
