Antonio "Tony" Poindexter, 60, of Grottoes, Virginia, departed this life on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He was the son of the late George Robert Poindexter, Jr. and the late Alease Smith Poindexter.
Born on April 26, 1966, in Washington, D.C., Tony was known for his love of family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with those he loved and could often be found watching car racing and professional wrestling on television—two of his favorite pastimes.
After relocating from Woodbridge, Virginia, to Grottoes, Virginia, Tony worked as a painter on various job sites throughout the area.
Tony is survived by his siblings, Kathleen E. Morse-Briggs (Nathaniel) of Arrington, Virginia; Daniel L. "Danny" Morse of Arrington, Virginia; Denise A. Poindexter-Williams of Maryland; Tawanna P. Cason (Pastor Anthony Cason) of Maryland; James L. McCarthy (Vernice) of Richmond, Virginia; Keith E. McCarthy (Mitzi) of Ashland, Virginia; Jerry Poindexter; and Charles Poindexter (Patricia). He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Darlene Poindexter and Diana Poindexter; a host of nieces and nephews; and many other loving family members and friends.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his siblings, Royal "Happy" Flether, George R. "Buddy" Poindexter, and Gary Poindexter.
A joint funeral service celebrating the lives of Alease Smith Poindexter and her son, Antonio "Tony" Poindexter, will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at New Mount Baptist Church, 370 Phoenix Road, Arrington, Virginia. Rev. Aaron Wade will officiate, with Minister Brenda Brown delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends during a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Garden Cemetery, Arrington, Virginia.
