It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family reports the passing of Ann Terrell Mayer on Saturday September 5, 2026. Ann died at home in the loving care of family after a long illness of seven years. Do not cry for her and is now free from the physical and mental bonds her illness caused. She is now dancing with joy in her eternal home.

Ann was born to Bobbie and Louise Henderson on September 13, 1940. She and her brother James and sister Patty were abandoned by her mother who was only 19 at the time and was unable to care for the children. After many difficult years in child services and foster homes she was adopted by Cyrus B. and Pansy H. Campbell of Charlotte, NC. Her adopted name was Ann Harrington Campbell. Her adoption allowed her many advantages as her father was a VP at the American Trust Bank and member of the Charlotte Country Club. Ann graduated from Myres Park High School and Queens College. During her time at Queens College, she was on their synchronized swimming team.

Ann married Alva Lee Terrell (deceased) of Charlotte, NC. Together they raised four children; Tracy Ann Terrell, Ben Petis Terrell (deceased), Chris Alva Terrell (deceased) and Kenneth Harrington Terrell. In addition to being a mother she excelled at tennis playing at the Olde Providence Racquet Club in Charlotte, NC

In 1995 Ann married Michael Dainis Mayer of Charlotte, NC. During this marriage she enjoyed an active physical life as a practitioner of Tai Chi, Yoga, day hiking and golf.

Ann spent much of her life in the service of others through the Women’s Club of Charlotte, Samaritans Purse Ministry, Swannanoa Valley Christian Ministry, Homeless Shelter of Black Mountain NC, Lynchburg Daily Bread, Kairos Prison Ministry, Healing Prayer Ministry and retreats for incarcerated mom’s and their children. In addition, Ann loved children and volunteered as a cuddler in the Neonatal Birthing Unit at Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg VA.

Ann was a devoted Christian, raised Baptist, but later in life served as a Senior Warden of St. James Episcopal Church in Black Mountain; she was an active member of their Healing Prayer Ministry.

So now we say goodbye to Ann. Nothing lasts forever; nothing ever will. Treasure every moment together for this moment will soon be carried away by the swift currents of time. Only LOVE remains after all else is gone. God speed dear Ann, We Love You. You are safe now, never to be abandoned again. Final services, yet to be planned, will involve immediate family.
