Alvin Comer Arthur

Alvin Comer Arthur, 87, of Bedford, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Bedford, VA on January 11, 1939. A son of the late Rodney and Ruth Arthur. In addition to his parents Alvin was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Fannie Thacker Arthur; his son, Troy Lynn Arthur and two brothers and their wives, Sammy Arthur and his wife, Betty and Rodger Arthur and his wife, Mary.

Alvin was a member of Timber Ridge Baptist church. He served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He retired after 39 years of employment from BWXT Nuclear at Mt Athos. He loved the outdoors while farming, gardening, in previous years hunting, especially bird hurting. Alvin’s greatest hobbies were his love for quarter horses and his bond with his horse Cheyenne. He loved his family and time spent with each of them and he will be dearly missed in the days ahead.

Alvin is survived by his son, Travis Lee Arthur and his wife, Karen; daughter-in-law and mother of his grandchildren, Angie Arthur; three grandkids, Cody Arthur and his wife, Emily, Camryn Millner and her husband, Cole and Colton Arthur and his wife, Brittney; one great-grandson, Nolan Arthur and one great-granddaughter on the way; one brother, Jimmie Arthur; three sisters, Sandra Abbott, Sharon Stanley and her husband, Randy and Karon Tomlin and her husband, Earl. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and so many friends.

A funeral service and celebration of Alvin’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Phil Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00pm on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford.
