Alfred Linwood
Lee
Dec 24, 1943 — Aug 21, 2026
Life Reflections
Alfred Linwood Lee of Amherst, Virginia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 21, 2026, at the age of 82.
Alfred was born on December 24, 1943, to the late Pearl Banks Lee Henley and the late Theodore Roosevelt Lee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Lee; his brother, Willie Lee; his sister, Sally Johnson of Pennsylvania; and his great-granddaughter, Blakely Campbell.
He leaves to cherish his memory his brothers, Charlie Lee, Randy (Dana) Hall and his sister, Hazel (Elwood Jr.) Brown. Alfred was a devoted father who leaves behind his children: Tara “Leelee” Lee, who never left his side and lovingly cared for him until his final breath; Joy (Edward) Wilson; Erica (Derryl) Jones; Gregory (Claudia) Lee; and Jeffrey (Kristin) Lee. He was a proud grandfather to Sade (Avery) Campbell, Treston (Kisha) Wilson, Kaleb Wilson, Malachi Watts, Tyrique (Alexandria) Scott, Diaminique Jones, Kendall, Samantha, Tegan, Braeden, and Nicolas Lee. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, including Eli Campbell, Harlynn Wilson, Cali Ellis, and Gage Cunningham. Alfred also leaves behind his beloved great-grand-dog, Lil’ Bit. He shared a special bond with his niece, Alberta Clayton of Pennsylvania, whom he lovingly referred to as “his baby.”
Alfred will also be lovingly remembered by his close friends Robert Sandidge, Betty Morgan, Robert “Bob” Sandidge, Wesley Wright, and Sherwood Camden, as well as his very special friend, Angelita Murphy. He leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory and miss him dearly.
Alfred was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. He worked at Archer Creek (Lynchburg Foundry) for more than 40 years before retiring. Retirement did not keep Alfred from staying busy. He returned to work with Amherst County Public Works, where he continued working until he was no longer physically able in January 2026.
Alfred was never afraid of hard work. In fact, he found great enjoyment in working on the farm and spending time gardening. He appreciated the simple things in life and was a man who could find happiness in a good day of work, time with family and friends, fishing, and watching his favorite television shows.
A longtime Washington Redskins fan, Alfred had also become quite fond of the Kansas City Chiefs, especially because Patrick Mahomes reminded him of his grandson, Kaleb.
When it came to television, Alfred had one rule: Gunsmoke was not to be interrupted, unless you wanted the smoke from him.
And if you were looking for a little help picking the day’s best Pick 3 numbers, Alfred was your man. He took great pride in studying his lottery prediction books, though he treated them like classified government documents—so don’t expect him to give you information on best picks for the day.
Alfred had a nickname for almost everyone he loved. Erica was “Monster,” Tara was “Rabbit,” Joy was “Piglet,” Gregory was “Boo,” and Jeffrey was “Tow Motor.” Those nicknames were just another way Alfred showed his love and connection to his family.
Alfred was a quiet, laid-back man who rarely complained. He could also be downright stubborn at times, and even when he became ill, he hardly complained. He faced life in his own way—with strength, determination, humor, and a quiet resilience that those who knew him will never forget.
Though he may no longer be here in body, Alfred’s love, laughter, stories, nicknames, stubborn spirit, and memories will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
