Alease Smith Poindexter

Alease Smith Poindexter, 87, of Grottoes, Virginia, departed this life Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Aaron Smith and Annie Robinson Ercus.

Alease was born February 17, 1939, in Arrington, Virginia, to Aaron Smith and Annie Robinson Ercus.

Alease was Baptized at the age of 5 at the Baptismal pool at New Mount Baptist Church. She was a very outgoing person. She loved to cook and made the best lemonade. When it was Bingo night, she was there ahead of time. Loved to visit with family and attended homecoming until her health declined in 2010. She loved to hear her Nephew’s sing. She loved them grandchildren.

After relocating from Washington, DC to Woodbridge, VA, she accepted a job with Comfort Inn Hotel as Supervisor of Housekeeping until she relocated to Grottoes, Virginia, and obtained employment with the Grottoes’s Laundromat as Manager of the Laundromat.

Alease is survived by her children, Royal “Happy” Flether (deceased), Kathleen E. Morse-Briggs (Nathaniel) Arrington, Daniel L. “Danny” Morse, Arrington, Denise A. Poindexter-Williams, Maryland, Tawanna P. Cason -Pastor Cason (Anthony)Maryland, Antonio “Tony” Poindexter, Grottoes, James L. McCarthy, (Vernice), Richmond, Keith E. McCarthy (Mitzi), Ashland, George R. “Buddy” Poindexter ((Deceased) (Darlene)Jerry Poindexter, Charles Poindexter (Patricia), Gary Poindexter (Deceased) (Diana);grandchildren, 17; Great-Grandchildren, her Nieces, Nephews, and her siblings, Aaron Smith (Deceased), Andrew Smith (Deceased), Anna Elizabeth “Lizzie” Smith-Miles (Deceased), Kimmie Smith (Deceased), Nathaniel “Butch” Smith Deceased), Corrie Smith (Deceased), Franklin Delano “Frank” Smith Deceased) (Alease), Clairdean Smith-Bryant (Deceased), Lester Smith (Deceased) (Portia), and Clementine Smith-Jones (Deceased); and many other loving family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 01, 2026, at 11:00 am at New Mount Baptist Church, 370 Phoenix Road, Arrington, Virginia. Rev. Aaron Wade, officiating, and Minister Brenda Brown, Pastor (Eulogy). A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery, Arrington, Virginia.
