Retired Major Ronald Eugene Coleman
June 7th 1940 to February 19th 2009
Ronald Eugene Coleman, Sr., 68, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, February 19, 2009. He was the husband of Gloria Layne Coleman for 46 years.

Ronnie was born June 7, 1940, in Lynchburg, a son of the late Owen Terrell Coleman and Bessie Mae Kirby Coleman. A brother, Owen Wayne (Butch) Coleman, and a nephew, Scott Hackworth, also preceded Ronnie in death. He was the retired Lynchburg Deputy Chief of Police and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Teresa Renee Barber and husband Glenn of Lynchburg, Ronald E. Coleman, Jr. and wife Brenda of Lynchburg, Martha Coleman-Craft of Forest, William Keith Coleman of Lynchburg, Emily Lindanne Coleman of Lynchburg, and Tammy Coleman Mann and husband Greg of Forest; his grandchildren, Ronald E. Coleman, III and Eric M. Coleman of Lynchburg, Carter S. Craft and Addison S. Craft of Forest, and L. Brett Mann of Forest; a brother, Marshall L. (Bud) Coleman of Madison Heights, a sister, Joyce Coleman Stinnett and husband Mark of Lynchburg, a sister-in-law, Peggy M. Coleman of Lynchburg, two nephews, Bobby & Steve Hackworth, and a niece, Tina Coleman.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. on Monday, February 23, 2009, at Thomas Road Baptist Church and other times at 915 and 917 Sandusky Drive. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, at Thomas Road Baptist Church with Chaplain James S. Whitaker and the Rev. Jim Moon officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
