Staria J. Mitchell

Staria J.Mitchell, of Forest, went to her heavenly home on August 31, 2010 after a seven-year battle with severe health problems.  She was the wife of Douglas C. Mitchell for 22 years, whom she married on Valentine’s Day, 1988.

Born Saturday, September 10, 1955, she was raised in Forest, VA, a direct descendant of the “May” family.

Staria spent her adult life in the medical field, first as a registered respiratory therapist until 1984.  She returned to Lynchburg College and received her Bachelor of Science in Health Services in 1986.  She graduated from Lynchburg College with a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 1992 and continued her education at UVA to receive a Master of Science in nursing in 1997.

Including her husband Douglas, she is survived by her loving mother, Patricia L. Weeks; her stepfather, Carlton Wayne Weeks; a nephew, Rodney W. Weeks, Jr.; an aunt, Norma L. Durham; a great aunt, Juanita Burford; and her devoted caretaker, Pat Hargis.

She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, whom she knew as “Mother”, Deria May Lovern; and her two brothers whom she loved dearly, Rodney W. Weeks, Sr. and James L. Williamson.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 3, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.  A service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, September 4, 2010 in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Evans officiating.  Staria will be entombed in the mausoleum at Virginia Memorial Park following the service.

    I was shocked to hear of Star's passing. I went to nursing school with her. Her bright mind and quick wit made classes tolerable! I sure she was a great nurse. My prayers are with you.

    I am truly sorry for yur loss !!! I have so many memories of Star... She has been there for my family when my father was sick and she helped me when I brought my grandmother home from the hospital., she truly was the most caring person I know. I still cannot get over the shock of her death. We all will miss her so much. I have always loved her family and I am so sorry for yet another devastating loss.

    I am so sorry to hear of Stars passing. It is a big shock. She was such a caring person. I will never forget how she helped me through the most difficult time in my life. Without her I may not of made it. She was truly a special friend. The world has lost a wonderful person.
    My prayers are with you Doug and Pat and may you find comfort in your memories.
